About

I have always loved reading for as long as I can remember.  Growing up in the 50's in New Zealand, there weren't many books around, and no local library, but I read what I could find.  I envy the choice available to children today, but am still delighted that there is so much choice for them.  My favourite part of working as a teacher was enabling students to develop a love of reading.  My favourite part of the week was walking with my class to the local town library where we could take books out on our class card.

I am now retired and enjoying reading more than ever along with book blogging here in New Zealand.

Genres I read:
  • Romance - mainly Contemporary, Historical Adventure, Suspense. Some time travel
  • Women's Fiction
  • Some General Fiction
  • At times I will read a little  YA, Paranormal, memoirs and Christian fiction.
Personally I really like to read HEA books, I don't mind if there is a bittersweet tinge to them, if they are about important life issues, but I do like there to be hope at the end!

The books I review are generally my own, I read books that I enjoy, life is too short to read ones I am not enjoying.  When I review the opinion I give is my own, I rate books on how much I enjoy them.  I recognise that a book I enjoy may not be one that someone else will enjoy.  Tastes in books vary greatly.

I am always pleased to 'meet' readers who enjoy similar books.  I have found since I began book blogging that my TBR list has grown, however I am quite okay with that!  At one time I worried that I would run out of authors that I love to read!  Possibly related to how hard it was to get my hands on enough books growing up.

I have many favourite authors which you may be able to discern from my Review Archive. However I was a reader long before I became a blogger.  My favourites shelf on Goodreads will indicate some.  However even now not all books read are on Goodreads.

I love to read actual books in the hand, however I appreciate my Kindle and the many books it has made available to me.  I have long been a member of Audible and like to listen to audio on my iPod as well.  Modern technology is something I am hugely grateful for.

Award free:
While I appreciate the kind thoughts of an award for my blog, I do not have the time to participate, so thank you for thinking of it but - no thanks.

  1. I grew up in the 50's too. :)

THANKS for commenting on my blog. Yep...just visited Scotland. My son lived there for a year, and I got to visit a few times. Loved The Isle of Skye.

Hope you get to visit some day. It is a beautiful country. My header is from Portree, Scotland.

    1. Elizabeth, love that I finally meet up with a blogger in same age range as myself! I love your header, and I picked it for the British Isles somewhere, but Scotland. Just love the scenery, I imagine it can get cold and bleak, but it just feels romantic!

    2. Kathryn & Elizabeth, there must be several of us around the same age. I visited New Zealand (Wellington) in 1993 or 94 -- loved it. Freshest food I've ever been served. Haven't been to Scotland, but it's on a list of places I'd like to visit. I'm looking forward to retirement so I will have the time to travel -- but I'm not sure I'll have the funds!!

    3. Yes, the thing is the funds become a little tight! I am not a big traveller, so travel doesn't grab me too much but would love to attend a book event somewhere at some point! I live only 40 min away from Wellington and enjoy going in there from time to time!

    4. I grew up in the 50s also! I live in Virginia, US. I love to read and will read almost anything...SiFi is my least favorite but that doesn't stop me if there is a good one out there. Glad there are other 50s ladies out there!

  4. Hi,
How are you? I can´t seem to send you an email. Maybe it´s due to the fact that I´m living in Mexico. I am interested in getting my book reviewed by you. I would be honored.
I have a YA Sci-Fi Dystopian ebook. The name of the book is Enoch and the Stars Above. Here´s the synopsis:

Enoch Sotheby´s always been rather odd. He´s been sheltered and hiding from the truth his whole life. But what is reality and what is make-believe? His search for answers in systematic messages from the stars above have led him down a path. But where´s he going and what´s he looking for? His search has come to an abrupt halt as something otherworldly is coming to take him and his world by means of annihilation.

Please let me know if still interested and thank you. I can send it PDF if you like. My email is rpaz1313@hotmail.com

    Kind regards,
    Rich
